John Leguizamo and my dreamgirl, Mira Sorvino (The thinking man's heartthrob) star in this A rated movie from Spike Lee. When the movie was initially launched, it triggered off a series of protests from familes of victims of the Son of Sam murders. The murders were commited in by a demented man who would walk up to strangers in cars and kill them. The murderer was caught by shear accident and brought to justice in 1977.The families felt that by making a movie of a demented killer was disrespecting their sentiments and capitalizing on the murder's sickening legacy.
However, 'The Summer of Sam' only uses the murders as a backdrop for the plot. Leguizamo and Sorvino play a couple trapped in a bad marriage. He short on morals is constantly unfaithful to her, but all her anger submerged by the couple's partying in the Discotheques of New York. Finally when the murdered strikes, a paranoia strikes the neigbourhood where the couple reside.
Leguizamo plays thepart as a spiness, immoral and disloyal individual dextrously. He is ably supported by Sorvino in this movie that brought back old memories of bell-bottom pants and disco music of my younger days. I loved it.
