Book Review: Sin City Book 7- Hell and Back

This is the last of the Sin City Series and is a fitting finale to the Sin City Saga. We are introduced to another Sin City hunk, an artist and former Navy Seal, Wallace. After rescuing a damsel in distress, Wallace finds himself in more trouble than he expected. Is he up to the challenge? Baby Blue eyes, an enigmatic woman we met in his previous book makes her appearence again. In his last book, Miller experimented with blue and red inks for the first time. In this final book he uses color brilliantly in one section of the book when Wallace, under the influence of drugs is hallucinating. Here again, we see the creative genius of Miller. Let's hope Rodrigues does this book justice when he translates it to screen.

I have thought of this series as the 'Thinking man's Soap Opera'. It has all the ingredients, sex and violence and great plots. This book completes the seies, unless Frank decides to revive the series. His art work is exquisite as it brings out the 'Noir' aspect of the legends of Sin City. These books sit on my shelf, allinged in order, 1 thorugh 7, spine to spine. Together the spines complete a picture of Nancy, Sin City's most beloved exortic dancer. I hope Frank decides to revive the glory days of Sin City. I cannot settle for any cheap imitator.

Book Review: Sin City Book 6 - Booze, Broads and Bullets

Forgive the sexist title, this is another classic in the Sin City Series. Actually it is a set of short stories. Once again we see some of the regular inhabitants of Sin City, including Nancy, Marv, Dwight and the two pathetic hit men, Fat man and Little boy.(I could never remember their names.) We also meet a new inhabitant, 'Blue Eyes'. We see a lot more of her in Frank Miller's seven and last Sin City Book. Each story is a work of art, while the last one, 'The Babe wore Red' is a classic. This is a must in your Graphic Novel Collection.

Book Review: Sin City Book 5- Family Values

Frank Miller returns with another violent dark comedy in this 5th installment of Sin City. A mystreious stranger is asking questions about an execution style killing in Sin city. This stranger has a pint-sized but deadly guradian angel. The killinghe is investigating leads him o a mob family. Unfortunaletly for this mob family, it has inadvertently messed with another family that simply cannot forgive and forget!

An old geezer cop is on his last day of his job. His mind imagines his happy retired life. Another part ofhim is thinking of a child. This young girl is in the hands of a perverted molester with powerful political connections. This is another hard hitting tale from Frank Miller.The girl in this tale will become one of the most well known and recognizable characters of Sin City. Miller is one of the genius artists who elevated the lowly status of comics into the honored ranks of American literature. His artwork is stunning too. For the first time, Frank experiments with yellow ink in a black and white graphic novel.

Book Review: Sin City Book 3 - The Big Fat Kill

Dwight returns in this tale. He now has a new waitress girlfriend. She has a mean ex who is up to no good in Old town a part of sin city inhabited with 'Amazon street walkers'. Alas, Dwight cannot let him go there. He 'owes' those women. Dwight and his friends soon finds that they are in more trouble than they could ever imagine.Frank Miller continues to work his magic.

Book Review: Sin City Book 2- A Dame to Kill For

This is the classic tale of enticement and betrayal told in a way only Frank can. For the first time, we are introduced to Dwight, a street savvy dude. If you've seen the movie, this story tells the tale of why this guy is running from the law. Even Marv makes a cameo appearence. I read that Sin City 2 will narrate this tale. Miller's saga continues!

Book Review: Sin City Book 1- The Hard Goodbye

Fascinated by the movie and Micky Roorke's character, I decided to sample the series. Upon reading the book, I realized how perfectly loyal the movie stays to the book. I was even more impressed with both Robert Rodrigues, the director of Sin City and Frank Miller, the creator of the Sin City series.

Marv is a no-good looser, a thug who cannot stay away from brawls. Marv has a heroic side to him as well. He could take on an army and treats women respectfully.

When someone treats him well, he would give up his life for that person. If someone treats him badly, well, he could be ruthless. Someone seems to be framing Marv for murder. Why?

I loved the unapologetic, ruthless plot of this Sin City tale where men can be brave or vicious, girls are wild and dangerous and justice is ruthless. Author Frank Miller's genius shows, not just in the story but in his brilliant graphics. Sin City comes alive keeping the reader wanting more! This book is not for the faint hearted.

Movie: Sin City (2005)

What a Movie! Roger Ebert called it a comic book on steroids. I wish I could put it in a better way. This is epic movie making, movie making at its finest. Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller present us with a macarbe universe of black-and white where color is only usead to emphasize a point. It is a world where single bullets or sharp objects cannot kill, where only extremes in human nature exist, like the evil, the brave and the unethical with no inbetween.

The opening tale features Bruce Willis, as a retiring cop who must do one last act before he can retire. Sure enough, no good deed goes unpunished. The second tale is one of the most sadist tales ever told on screen. Sure enough, Rodriguez seeks the help of his pal, Quentin Tarantino to tell it. This tale features Micky Rorke and has resurrected Rorke's career. The third part of the trilogy is one where a group of hookers must protect their part of the town from corrupt officials. In this segment comes an unforgettable role of Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro. This movie is one of a kind and certainly not for the faint hearted.

Dont miss the interviews with Rodriguez, Tarantino and the stars of the movie. " I wanted it to be Frank Miller's Sin city, not mine", says Rodriguez. Has he succeeded! This one stays so faithful to the graphic novels.
