Set in the Reagan days of 1980, this is a violent, cynical and satirical look at the High Life of a New York Yuppy.Christian Bale is one of Hollywood's greatest talents. Hollywood seems to have realized only now. Chirstian will plat Batman in the upcoming 'Batman, the Beginning'.
Jason Bateman(Bale) is living the high life. He lives in a luxury apartment in New York. He has a girlfriend(Reese Witherspoon) ,he only sees every few days. However, he is nowhere close to celebate. He picks up women off the street and brings them to his lavish apartment.
He is self absorbed, arrogant, rude, ruthless but also extremely insecure. He also has a darker side. With his vampire-like canines, Bale was made to play this role. We will see much more of Bale in the coming years.
My favorite part in the movie is when Bateman and his buddies try to play the game of "Who has the best business cards". It is graphic in sex, more amusing than pornographic. This movie is a hidden gem.
