Movie Review: La Femme Nikita (1991)

This is probably French director Luc Besson's best work.Nikita (Anne Parillaud) a junkie tramp is picked off the street and trained to be a secret agent/hitman. Anne Parillaud does a phenomenal job portaying Nikita's transformation from bum to sophisticated woman.
Nikita is trained to be robotic in her killing, but like most of Luc Besson's characters cannot give up her humanity. She falls in love and is engaged to a man who is totally unaware of her secret life as a hitwoman.
One of my favorite scenes is when Nikita is in the bathroom, focussing on her kill and her husband is behind the locked bathroom door telling Nikita how much he loves her. Nikita goes through the task with tears in her eyes.
The end often referred to as the 'French' end is ambiguous. This is a movie that I can recommend heartily. Watch this movie!
