Two Blondes from Belgium

It is not often that one pays $15 for a six pack of ale but if you are spending it on either of these Blonde ales from Belgium, it is money well spent.
Alligem, is a smooth excellent beer with a mild after-taste. It is not too bitter and has a thin texture for an ale. According to the website, it won a medal at the Luxembourg fair in 1951. I can assure you that it lives up to its reputation even today.
Leffe also blonde and from Belgium packs a great distinct flavor of its own. Both of these are excellent beers amd are heartily recommended.
And yes, they go great with a few helpings of the Superbowl!

Fisherman's Navigator Winter Reserve

This is another great lager from New England. Brewed at the Cape Ann Brewing Company in Gloucester, MA Fisherman's Navigator Winter Reserve is a double bock lager which packs good flavor, a bit sour and not too bitter. It is quite heavy for a lager, but one of the best I've tried this winter season.

Black Dog Ale

This is another good typical Amber Ale. Sour, medium texture and great tasting. It is too bitter either. It is brewed by the Spanish Peaks Brewing Company in Montana.

Mayflower Porter

I have tried the Mayflower Pilsner and really liked it. This one is as good. It is not too bitter, maybe a little sour, but smooth and not too filling either. As mentioned earlier, it is brewed close to where I live,at the Mayflower Brewing company, in Plymouth MA

Winter Bourbon Cask Ale

Its the end of one holiday weekend and time to savour a good brew. Winter Bourbon Cask Ale(WBCA) is a good choice, especially for this time of year. Heavy but not as heavy as other winter ales, WBCA packs a great flavour. Yes, there is a hint of Bourbon and some chocolate(not of the sweet variety).

The big surprise is that it is brewed by Michelob, St. Louis Missouri. I'm impressed. It is unlike anything I have tasted before. I would definitely recommend it.

Long Trail Ale

Well, I just had to get this one in before the weekend is over. Long Trail Ale, brewed by Long trail brewery Vermont is a decent beer, not too thick nor too bitter. Like most ales from this area, it packs a good flavour and is smooth but not too filling. Worth a try is my verdict.

Dundee Original Honey Brown

It's been a while since I had lager beer. Not quite winter brew, but well, its good. It is neither too sweet nor bitter. True to its name, it leaves an after-taste of honey. This one is brewed in the Dundee beer brewery in Rochester, New York. This is a good change from traditional beers and is heartily recommended.

Mayflower Golden Ale

Though not quite a winter brew, this one is worth savouring. It is light and has a great pilsneur-like taste. Best of all, it is brewed in my own backyard: by the Mayflower Brewing company, in Plymouth Massachusetts.

Magic Hat Winter Seasonal

With Old man winter quickly approaching, most breweries are switching from their October Fest offerings to their thick, heavy Winter offerings. The first one of these I tried was the Magic Hat "Howl" winter seasonal. It is brewed by the Magic Hat Brewing company in Vermont.

The original Magic Hat, 'Not quite pale ale' is one of my favourites. This one is a little more bitter, heavy and smooth. Not bad, is my verdict.

Wachusett Octoberfest

With fall upon us here in New England, it is time to transition from the watery summer brew to the October beers from various breweries.

Wachusett Octoberfest is a great way to make this transition. This ale is smooth without aftertaste and has a great flavor. It reminds one of another great New England beer, Magic hat.

Wachusett Octoberfest is brewed in Wachusett Brewery in Westminster MA. (While looking for it in your local liquor store, remember to drop the last 'S' from Wachusetts for savings :)

Budweiser American Ale

I must admit that I am not a big fan of Budweiser beer but this new ale offering from Budweiser was a pleasant offering. It is a little bitter compared to other ales but still good. I liked the design on the label which was a great decoy for those like me who are programmed to avoid anything that says 'Bud beer'.

Hibernator Long Trail

The Hibernator Long Trail from the Long Trail Brewing Company is a great offering from the Long Trail Brewing Company. It is very similar to another of my favorite ales, MagicHat, also brewed in VT. It is heavier than Magic Hat and does not have a subtle flavor like MagicHat.

Full Moon Winter Ale

This is the winter version of the Blue Moon White Belgian Ale, an offering from Molson Coors Brewing Company.

It is smooth and heavy like most winter ales and not as sour as the original. I prefer the original Blue Moon, though this one is OK.

Sam Adams Octoberfest

This is a little more bitter than the other Octoberfest beers but is still great and goes well with Andy Cap hot fries. The back label proclaims that it won over the competition in Munich, Germany.
I did not know we had an Octoberfest winner in my own backyard. Sam Adams is proudly brewed in Boston.

Magic hat #9

Magic Hat #9 brewed by Magic Hat Brewery in Burlington, Vermont is one of the most popular ales in the New England area. Hell, they even serve it at the Muddy in MIT.
'Not Quite Pale Ale' as is proclaimed on the bottle, is a great way to describe it as it tastes like no other ale. It is on the sweeter side, with a hint of apricot and is probably medium heavy. It is smooth and refreshing. It is one of my favorites, particularly in winter.

Post Road Pumpkin Ale

An ale from New York! This is the first time I've (knowingly) had one. The Post Road Pumpkin Ale is brewed by the Brooklyn Brewery in Utica,New York. It is spicy and not as heavy as other Pumpkin ales and is easily among the best I've tried.

I would recommend this one quite highly. Enjoy responsibly :)

Green Monsta Ale

This was the first time I had seen or tried the Green Monsta Ale. It is brewed by the Wachusetts Brewing Company located in Westminister Massachusetts. It's a little on the bitter side. It isn't bad, but it tastes like a home brew.

Tiger Beer

If Sake is the best drink to savor oriental food, Tiger beer from Singapore based Asia Pacific Breweries is a close second. Like most other lagers, it is more dilute that ales and is real smooth.

It is also less bitter and great on the palette with almost no aftertaste. In fact, it tastes very much like Heineken, which is not so surprising as Heineken owns a stake in Asia Pacific Breweries.

Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale

This is Shipyard Brewing Company's version of the pumpkin ale. It is rich and on the sour side and goes well with a Redsox game.
